A Promise of Enduring Love

Up to this time this is my favorite poem.
--------------

You say,
She said, Love
Is not immortal. It dies.
Don’t get too close lest it take your heart to Sheol too

I say, She is wrong.
I am in love with you and will stay forever thus entwined.

You say,
But now she has spoken
And I cannot stay the same
Will you leave? Will I?

Angel, you are a dove that brings peace.
Love, now I wish I could bring peace to you.

You were quiet.

I know! I will write a poem
Entitle it “Enduring Love”.

You might have smiled, I envisioned it.

No, says I, what have we endured?
Nearly a year, but no more.
Instead, I will write you a poem.
Entitle it “A Promise of Enduring Love”

You smiled.

So did I.

Something I have been wrestling with...

What is the question?

To be or not to be is not my own.

What should I do in this session?

And then I wonder what is under your crown…

A promise once promised is like cupids arrow once shot.

For it can be removed

But unless you like pain I would advise you not.

Keeping the arrow, the promise, is what it means to be loved.

We will go on.

I would not that you did anything against your will

Yet my heart did run

When you said, I will

Yet the promise does not look like it shall be kept

I feel as if cupid's arrow has been ripped
